Voddie Baucham on Youth Ministry
Posted by Scott T. Brown on September 1, 2011
Here is the full footage we took of Voddie Baucham when we were shooting the film Divided.
He addresses a vast array of subjects including, Where are we today in the 21st century American Church?; Sacred Cows; History of the Sunday School Movement; Why can't we have youth ministry and parental involvement?; Give an example from the Bible for how you train youth; Why is it wrong to gather youth together to worship and pray and be taught?; Does the church have freedom to innovate?; What is your message to pastors?

This interview brought tears to my eyes. Thank you, Pastor Baucham for your faithfulness to God's Word and the explaining the church's descent into this false culture of the "teen years." As a teacher in Christian schools for 20 years, I began to see the folly of these "divorced" teenagers. In sports, field trips, senior trips--everything revolved around being entertained. This became the focus of the "youth ministry"--we have to keep them entertained. My parents could not find a faithful, Bible teaching church during my teen years, so they had to be "varsity parents." And they did a good job. When we did travel to a Bible conference, or to hear a renowned evangelist or Bible teacher in a nearby city, I sat in the congregation with my parents--"be quiet and listen." I'm sure I daydreamed or doodled a lot, but by the 7th or 8th grade I was listening. By 16, 17, and 18, I was NOT a child; within the church I was treated as a believer; young yes, but a believer to be taught and discipled just like any other believer. Nowadays, I have seen "trashed" youth buildings, because the youth pastors have no real authority to "correct" the young people (We might upset them and they won't come back.) This institution of youth ministry must be questioned and must be trashed itself. Preach it, Brother.
Wow, this interview is so power pact. I wish everyone would view it several times.
Thank you NCFIC for posting this to this site. I have been directing those who have seen Divided to it for further encouragement!!
Blessings
Love Voddie - he couldn't be more right on when it comes to the current state of youth ministry. And children's ministry is not far behind it...
Thank you for sharing Voddie's entire interview. It was very thought provoking. I hope you share the rest of the speakers' interviews, as well. "Divided" was an excellent movie.
